How We Communicate With Families
The Tools Donelson Uses to Communicate and When
It’s critical parents and schools partner together to help make sure that our students are safe, known, and ready to achieve! In order for this to happen, open communication is critical.
We have several tools that we use to help us keep parents informed about what is happening at Donelson Middle School.
We use three primary technology tools to support communication:
- Automated calls
- Automated emails
- Messages through the Remind app.
Automated Calls and Email
We use automated calls and emails to share our regularly scheduled weekly communication and other formal announcements. We also use this system to share messages regarding student absences. All messages through this system come through school administrators or district staff.
When these messages come directly from the school principal, parents are able to reply. This is the same system that is used to send out district-wide communications. If you need to reply to district-wide messaging, please contact the school directly for assistance.
Remind App
Donelson uses the Remind app (which you can also configure for text or email delivery) to share information that is more immediate. Some examples are announcements about late buses, reminders about school programs, or a school update.
Teachers are also able to use Remind to send parents updates about what is coming soon in their classroom, reminders about assignments, and even individual messages about their child. Remind provides the option for immediate two-way translation and parents are able to message back directly to the school or teacher.
Written Communication, Website and Social Media
Additionally, we will frequently send home written copies of information, update the calendar on our website, post information to our Facebook page, send individual email messages, make phone calls, and conduct face-to-face meetings.
Need Help Connecting?
If you aren’t receiving messages from all of these avenues, we encourage you to reach out to the school to verify your contact information and to ensure that you have not “opted out” of the system.
You also can confirm your email and phone number are correct in the district's Campus Portal. If you need access to the portal contact school.
